Artwork by Montana-based fish and wildlife artist Derek DeYoung there is a limited edition run of these Abel Reels, Abel has chosen two paintings to replicate on their reels from DeYoung’s series, “The Abstract Trout Faces.” One reel finish is based on DeYoung’s “Abstract Rainbow – Serendipity,” a representation of a rainbow trout with a small serendipity fly in its mouth. The other is based on “Abstract Brown – Copper John,” a painting of a butter-colored brown trout with a shiny copper john in its jaw. Both of the DeYoung custom finishes are limited to the year of 2009 and available on any size Abel reel.

DeYoung, 28, was raised on the shores of a small lake in western Michigan, where he and his two brothers spent nearly every waking hour chasing pan fish, largemouth bass and northern pike. The artist graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Mich.

RARE TBS 312 ANTI-REVERSE 3 1/2" LIGHT SALMON / STEELHEAD REEL in very good condition and in full working order, I have no idea where or who made this reel, it has been suggested that it was made in Conneticut by Larry Kennedy but this is still to be confirmed (any additional information will be gratefully received) dare I say it but it looks like a reel that Ari Hart has had his hand in, it is one of those reels that I will not be in a hurry to sell as I am hoping to try it out in British Columbia later this year as the drag system is awesome!!! and I am fed-up with losing the skin off my knuckles with my conventional salmon reels that I use! Size: 3,5 in diam., 1,5 in. wide, weight 314 grams, the small lever on the back when lifted and turned puts the reel into free spool, which makes letting line out very simple.
